WarioWare: Get It Together! VS Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge is a pretty interesting battle as it is the two main Nintendo Switch party games going head to head. WarioWare has been a Nintendo staple since the days of the GameCube and the Game Boy Advance and its latest installment is going up against the latest party game to hit the Switch, 2022s Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge.
Which one is best? Well, that is what we are taking a look at today.
Round 1: Gameplay
Both of these are mini-game compilations, but there are some key differences in how they do things.
WarioWare: Get It Together!: This core gameplay of mini-games (microgames as they call them here) as in past games, but this installment changes things up a bit as the WarioWare gang can be directly controlled and each one has their own “gimmick” for example, Wario can do his shoulder charge and use a jetpack, 18-Volt can only move around by swinging onto hooks, but he can also shoot. Each character adds something different to the gameplay and it makes it stand out from the past WarioWare games.
Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge: Like WarioWare which Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge is clearly inspired by, you have a series of mini-games. This plays more like classic WarioWare where you have a series of mini-games with each one having its own control scheme. The problem is, the first time you play many of the games, they are over before you even know what the controls are!
Winner:
WarioWare: Get It Together!
Thanks to WarioWare offering the same type of zany microgame action and the new direct control over the characters. This is an easy win for WarioWare as Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge feels very barebones and cobbled together.
Round 2: Mini-Games
Here we have perhaps the most important round in our WarioWare: Get It Together! VS Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge battle!
WarioWare: Get It Together!: WarioWare: Get It Together! Makes a tremendous first impression. Once again, the mini-games have that classic WarioWare feel to them and with each character having their own set of mini-games it does change things up. It would have been nice if every character could play every mini-game, but overall, the mini-game selection here is as fun, crazy, and memorable as it has ever been.
Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge: Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challengeis a game that is trying way too hard when it comes to its mini-games. To be fair, this game is stacked with mini-games as there are 100 different ones. But they all have this fake attitude that is trying to be “cool” with all its meme and gif like culture. Perhaps some may get a chuckle out of this, but many will find it annoying. It can also be hard to know exactly what to do with many of the mini-games, meaning your first attempt will come and go before you even know what happened!
Winner
WarioWare: Get It Together!
This is an easy win for WarioWare. While it is impressive that Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge has a ton of mini-games. They lack the personality and fun that the WarioWare mini-games offer.
Round 3: Soundtrack
These games are both pretty wild and crazy so they need a wild and crazy soundtrack to match the gameplay!
WarioWare: Get It Together!: A huge appeal of the WarioWare games over the years has been the personality and that includes the hilarious and very fitting sound. WarioWare: Get It Together! Has a fantastic soundtrack that is quirky, makes you panic, and will even make you laugh. The soundtrack and whole sound design of the game fit the crazy plot of the game and the mini-games perfectly.
Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge: To be fair, Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge has a funky and quirky soundtrack that does fit the mini-games and the overall style of the game very well. It is fun and it does not grate on you or anything like that. However, it is just lacking any real personality and while the songs fit the game, it is ultimately a pretty forgettable soundtrack
Winner
WarioWare: Get It Together!
With a funky soundtrack and some awesome sound effects. The sound design is actually one of the more underrated aspects of WarioWare: Get It Together! Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge is not bad, but it is pretty forgettable and nowhere near as much fun as what WarioWare has to offer.
Round 4: Visuals
Next up in our WarioWare: Get It Together! VS Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge fight to the death we are looking at the visuals and how these games are as far as their presentation goes.
WarioWare: Get It Together!: How can you not love the whole craziness that is the WarioWare series? Thanks to the Switch being the most powerful platform the series has appeared on yet, things are brighter, more detailed, and even quirkier than ever before. It has the classic WarioWare style and as always it is a great deal of fun. Some may argue that they have not changed things up enough, but they are really giving people what they want when it comes to a WarioWare game.
Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge: Yellow! If you have played, Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge and someone asks you what first comes to mind when you think of the visuals it will be yellow. There are yellow splats, logos, and words all over the place and it can get a bit much. Many of the games are done with FMV which is kind of fun, but the whole thing just comes across like it is trying way too hard to be funny and edgy. It is clearly aimed at those who love the whole “meme culture” thing.
Winner
WarioWare: Get It Together!
Another easy win for WarioWare: Get It Together! This is such a fun looking series and this is arguably the best and craziest it has ever looked.
Round 5: Longevity
Our last round is looking at which one of these games you will be playing the longest!
WarioWare: Get It Together!: There is a good reason why WarioWare is a game that we usually only get once per generation! This game is just as addictive as it has ever been. No matter if you are playing against your friends when having a fun game night or trying to outdo your best scores and times. This is a game that you will be playing for many years to come and you will be smiling the whole time you do!
Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge: Most of the mini-games that are on offer in Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge are hard to figure out and lack any real personality. It does have a decent selection of game modes and with a group of friend’s you guys will be having a lot of laughs as you play this. However, in single-player, despite having two game modes, the lack of personality makes it more of a chore to playthrough than a game like this should be.
Winner
WarioWare: Get It Together!
WarioWare is a game that will be sold as long as the Nintendo Switch is available as it is a tentpole title for the console. It is the kind of game that sits beside the likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros Ultimate that is essential if you are having a Switch game night with your friends. Plus, the single-player content is a lot of fun as well.
Final Verdict
In all honesty this WarioWare: Get It Together! VS Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge has been one of the most one sided VS battles we have ever done here on the site. WarioWare: Get It Together! Is a better game in every way you could imagine. To be fair, Ultra Mega Xtra Party Challenge is not a horrible game and it could be a fun addition to your Switch library if you do play games with your friend and family members. However, more than likely after ten or so minutes of playing that, you will all want to go back to playing WarioWare: Get It Together!
